TArmenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan expressed condolences to the President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso over the cargo aircraft crash in Brazzaville Saturday night, Armenian President’s Office reports.
“Armenia’s President delivered condolences over the plane crash, in which dozens of innocent people were killed and injured,” according to the source.
Five citizens of Armenia died in the crash in Congo (the plane crew members).
Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has only revealed the name of one of the killed citizens that of the aircraft commander Varazdat Balasanyan. The identities of the other killed crew members are being clarified. Spokeswoman for the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia Nelly Cherchinyan told Novosti-Armenia agency five out of seven crew members were the citizens of Armenia, who worked in the Congo on contract basis.
Nearly 30 people are said to die in the plane crash in the capital the Republic of Congo. The cargo plane which was transporting merchandise failed to land in Brazzaville’s airport and crashed in some small village nearby destroying several constructions.
The plane model is said to be IL-73 with ЕК-76300 registration number. According to some sources, the crash was caused by a thunderstorm.
