Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization said that in current global economic recession, development of port infrastructures and maritime fleet should be paid attention and reiterated that when this economic condition comes to an end and the economic prosperity is restored, those countries with adequate infrastructures can appropriate a greater share of trade in the market.

Addressing a ceremony to mark the World Maritime Day, Mr. Sadr said that PMO has developed its ports in partnership with the private sector and has placed Iranian ports among developed ports of the world. Noting that development of maritime transportation will be realized through development of the port and maritime fleet, PMO’ Managing Director stated that these two factors are dependant on each other.

Mr. Sadr went on to point out that private sector’s investments, financial policies and popular pattern of the coastal cities are among the other factors influencing maritime transportation development.

Elsewhere in his remark, Mr. Sadr referred to the revision of the Iranian Maritime Law in the parliament and said that this move will remove the existing shortcomings in this law and described it as a milestone in the history of maritime activities.

Mr. Sadr also reiterated that due consideration must be given to maritime transportation and seaborne activities.
